It's good to be back!

It's been said that the bonds of Masonic brotherhood are not measured by the calendar. I have found this to be true in the last several weeks as I have found the door of the Lodge open to any brother who wishes to return. Although I had kept up membership in my Blue Lodge, I had not been active in the past 5 years. This year in February I returned to Operative Lodge #308 in Polk City and found while there are new faces, the brotherly love is the same. And, there are still some old faces! Thanks brothers, old and new, for welcoming me back.

In just the past few weeks, I have renewed my membership in the Des Moines Valley Scottish Rite and the Des Moines York Rite. I enjoyed attending a recent reunion and found the degrees to be as meaningful to me now as in the past. I'm looking forward to the last weekend of the reunion coming up and to the Des Moines York Rite Festival next month.

I also have started attending Logic Lodge #636 in Ankeny. I've moved from Polk City to Ankeny and hope to become active here. The brothers were welcoming and the Lodge is vibrant and active. I plan to continue my membership In Operative Lodge #308 and join Logic Lodge as a dual member.

In addition, my son just turned 18 and visited Colorado Springs Lodge #76 just last week. As a 4th class Cadet (freshman) at the U.S. Air Force Academy his schedule is tight, but he told me he had a blast visiting with the brothers there at a meal before their Stated meeting.

I was fortunate to visit Colorado Springs Lodge #76 in early October when I visited my son for a weekend. The Lodge meets in the Colorado Grand Lodge Masonic Center and I met RW Brother Scot Autry, Grand Secretary. I felt right at home visiting with him on a Friday afternoon. His welcoming attitude and cheerful spirit exemplified the principles of this fraternity.

More on my visit to come in my next post.
